4 hacks for having a meltdown free beach vacation with kids

Our set up on South Beach Miami, Feb 2017

Beach vacations are my favorite. I envision my husband and i sitting quietly on our beech chairs reading a book while our 4 year old plays in the sand and our baby quietly naps.  The reality is this is all very laughable if you are not prepared and don’t have the right gear. It took us a few tried before finding the right way to do things.  Check out my tips below on how to have an enjoyable beech day with wee ones.

1. Bring this tent

I cannot say enough good things about this tent we ordered on Amazon.  It is amazing when there is no shade around and offers older kids a quiet place to nap.  It is so slim it fits really well in suitcases and has come on 3 trips for us and is still going strong.  The other item i love for small babies is the Pea Pod.  it has a padded bottom and  completely zips up if they aren’t yet able to sit up.

2. Bring a large beach mat

This beach mat was also ordered on Amazon.com is amazing. Best 10$ we could have spent as it kept the sand at bay and offers small babies an area to crawl without them eating sand. Its just a mat, I know but its come absolutely everywhere with us from the beech to picnics, soccer games and even just my backyard to offer a place for the babies to play.  It also folds really well and was brought many times in luggage for multiple trips.

3. Bring a SOFT cooler bag

If you can help it, do not buy a bulky cooler.  We saw people lugging these around on South Beach and it looked cumbersome.  We bought a soft cooler bag at Costco for a mere 5$ and were able to pack it in our luggage to being back home.  It also offers plenty of space to store any beech gear on top of keeping food and drinks cool all day. We bring TONS of snack and food for the entire day and almost never buy meals at restaurants.  Waiting around with kids is no fun, there are rarely few keto friendly options and if you are traveling to SOBE EVERYTHING is way overpriced.  14$ for an ice cream cone is ridiculous.  Instead we opted to bring our lunch everyday and stroll down to Lincoln Rd mall to check out the organic section of the farmers market

4. Raid the Target dollar bin.

This is absolutely crucial if you have a busy toddler.  Although we thought our son would be content playing in the ocean his favorite thing to do was play in the sand with his new monster truck from target we purchased for a couple buck.  He also stayed busy with bubbles, coloring books and some Paw Patrol paraphernalia. If its something they’ve never seen before it will probably hold their attention longer.
